Susan was born in Philadelphia and grew up on the New Jersey shore, graduating from Atlantic City High School’s Medical-Dental Assisting Program. During her senior year she trained with Drs. Dannenbaum Kaplowitz and Weiss, a dental practice with 2 periodontists and 1 endodontist. After her training there she realized she loved dental assisting and was hired by these doctors when she graduated. She moved to Pierre in 1977 with her family and has been here ever since. She worked as a dental assistant from 1977 until 1990. She then went to Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in 1995, and worked in radiology, admitting, and central scheduling. In 2003 she decided to become an RN and graduated from USD nursing school at CUC Pierre, in May 2005, receiving her RN license in June. She retired from nursing in December 2020. She was thrilled to have the opportunity to go back to her “roots”, and was hired as a dental assistant/receptionist at Hermanson Endodontics August 20, 2021. While chairside endodontic assisting is definitely a big learning curve, she is enjoying the challenge. She also enjoys meeting and visiting with patients and working with a wonderful, patient staff!
She loves Pierre and South Dakota, with its wide-open prairies, farms, the Black Hills, the Missouri River, Lake Oahe and the friendliness of its people. She lives in Pierre with her husband Brad, and together they share 6 children and 16 grandchildren. Her favorite things to do are spending time with all of them, watching the older grandkids play sports or the babies learning walk and talk. Susan loves being outdoors, walking, boating, swimming in the lake, growing flowers, and watching the birds.
